- Keep a daily practice diary over a period of at least 2 months, showing how you've applied and responded to the targets set in both solo and ensemble performances.
- Make sure that you include analysis of your strategy- what have you changed during the period of the diary and why?
- Record and present your findings in the form of Blog, with embedded audio and video showing improvement over time.
Learning
outcomes
On completion of this unit a learner should:
1 Know effective
instrumental or vocal technique through a structured practice routine
2 Be able to apply
effective instrumental or vocal technique in solo performance
My practice routine
In this blog I’m going to use it
as a practice diary to look at my progression on my guitar and singing practicing. I am
very new to guitar.I have got a
step by step guide to learning guitar, which is a book and a DVD by Nick Freeth
which I am finding extremely useful and it is helping me very much.

I feel that I needed to cut down the length of time I said I would be doing something for, for example, just one hour session of guitar a day, I was finding that I was doing say 3-4 sessions of about 15-30 minutes. I know not everything I do on this time table is going to be the same every day and I will be doing what I feel I need to work on each day. Hopefully shortening the times will make me keep my concentration better through out and I will feel more enthusiastic about wanting to practice. I also found out that during learning the guitar I do need to study it, not just get hands on with it, I do need to read things on the internet an actually read through the books that I have, for example, how to read tabs as this will help me along the way, I've put a set time in for this so I am getting some of this study in as well.

I feel that making the change in the practice diary was a good idea. Today I feel like when I went over everything that I have learned that I found it much easier and I was able to remember and change between the chords much easier. I'm hoping to move on and learn more next, I want to get everything I have done so far perfect before I move on too fast.
24/01/13-27/01/13
Over these past 3 days I learnt some more chords and tried to complete all the exercises from the book I've been reading. These were to be able to play amazing grace, a simple version and then a more difficult version. Also, learnt a small sequence which is blues. I think I've learnt everything quite fast considering I haven't been playing for long, and also I've been trying to read the theory side to the book as this will help me in many ways. (UPLOAD VIDEO)
28/01/13
Today I moved on a little in my book, have been looking around for guitar teachers to find a good deal, as this is something I feel would give me motivation having set lessons and help me progress quicker. I'm still learning from my DVD/books, and feel I am making progress with this and have most definitely improved from when I started.
30/01/13
Today I spoke to my music teacher Alison, and she has kindly agreed to give me singing lessons which I think will really help me with setting targets in this part of my music. I chose to have singing lessons rather than using them the things I've found from YouTube as I think it would be more personal and direct to me setting me individual targets. I will change my practice routine again once I've arranged my first singing lesson. With the guitar, today I spent about an hour and a half practicing guitar, I went back to the beginning and read through the book properly, which helped me with a bit of the theory side and answered some of the questions I'd been thinking about, as I hadn't really read through it properly.
02/02/13
Today I learnt some more chords. Like e7 and went over the things I have previously learnt. I feel like I'm making progress, the second book that I bought I think has helped me a lot. (UPLOAD VIDEO)
03/02/13
I recapped everything again to make sure I am completely happy with everything so far. I learnt more chords, such as em7, dm7, am7 ,cmaj7, amaj7, fmaj7, dmaj7. I found dmaj7 quite hard due to it being 3 strings held down with just one finger. I will need to build strength within my fingers to get used to playing this chord. I come across this problem with quite a few of the chords but over time I will get better at them, I have already noticed improvement. (UPLOAD VIDEO)
04/02/13-06/02/13
Over these past few days I've been really focusing on going over everything to re cap to make sure I've got everything down right so I don't start being lazy with what I know far. Something I want to work on is knowing the newest chords I've learnt off by heart, as in, being able to play a chord without having to look in my book, this will come in time because I learnt the others off by heart, these ones just are a little harder to learn due to them being more difficult.
07/02/13
I have moved on from everything today and focusing on trying to play some of the songs that have been given to me in my book. This will improve me being smoother when changing between chords, learning how to read a bit of music, and also will help me with chord strokes and being able to follow and copy the pattern of a song. I have a CD which comes with this book so I can hear what the songs and exercises are meant to sound like. I can play along with these and play them back to see if I'm doing them correctly.
09/02/13-11/02/13
Continued to go over everything I've done so far. Going to move on in the book now.
I've found that although I've been making progress I feel as though I'm now at a point where I need to move on and use another source, not just these 2 books as I feel one of them is great but sometimes it can be extremely hard to understand and I don't feel it's broken down enough, I may look online and see if there is another one I could buy and try out. I have tried learning a few songs which have been successful.
13/02/13-19/02/13
Continued working on chords and also learnt how to read guitar tab. I found this quite hard at first and had to read from the 2 of the books that I have and read through it several times before I finally got it. There's some exercises in the books which is guitar tab which I have been reading and working from.
20/02/13
Today I started writing my own song. I write songs anyway just have never really put them down with an instrument. As this is my first time doing this, I know it's not going to be perfect or sound great at first but the more I practice with things like this the quicker and better my skills will develop.
21/02/13
Today I continued with the song I had been looking at doing yesterday. I also continued practicing over the chords that I've learnt so far I also went on and learnt some more. It's becoming much more natural to me now and I feel that when I try a new chord I pick it up much quicker and more fluently.
I have been practicing every single day but I found that I was doing it more to when I felt like practicing, which was about 1-2 hours a day but I felt I don't need a timetable to make sure I do this. I have been using it as an outline so I can look at specific things when practicing and what kinds of things I need to practice. In my practice routine I missed out Saturday for a 'day off' but because this is something I am interested in and wanting to do I found that I still practiced on this day. I'm hoping that through my videos and diary entries improvement can be noticed and can see how much I have been trying to get better and how much I have learned. I haven't been keeping a note down of my singing practice side to things, but this is because I want to start doing this properly when I have started my singing lessons with Alison.
25/03/13-02/03/13
I wanted to do something different today as I was getting used to doing chords so I have been continuing just experimenting and messing about with it. I also went over new chords and ones I already know. The next part in my book looks at blue's and finger picking so this will be really helpful. I have always written songs but I never really put words to music so I have recently started to do this more. This is a video of just the guitar of a beginning of a song I have started to write. It's simple and not that great but it is the start. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZoaHUHI9uE
04/03/13
I changed the song I made around a bit as my playing has improved to I think my creativity got better and I was more comfortable with trying out new things. Although I know a song I make at this level won't be great but it will only get better with practice and I can keep improving it as time goes on.
Changing my practice routine...
I've decided that I don't want to use a practice routine anymore, purely because I think it makes the process feel like a chore and something that I have to do. I have been practicing everyday without needing the practice routine to keep me into a routine and making sure that I do it. I haven't missed a day of practice. I was practicing when I wanted to and it wasn't always in the order that I had said. Also with the singing when I get my singing teacher it will be much more of a routine as I was finding it quite difficult to get into routine to do this.
06/03/13
As I said before I started my own song but I found it really quite difficult and don't really think I'm at a level yet to do this so I thought it would be a good idea to start learning other songs (covers) and doing these. I learnt Daughter-Peter today in about an hour or so. I still need to work on the pattern of it, as in, the speed for certain parts but the chords itself are pretty simple and I found it quite easy. I think learning songs will give me inspiration and improve me when I want to write my own stuff and also will introduce me new chords and make me a better guitarist altogether.
Here are the chords for Daughter- Peter. I also looked at a YouTube video to get more of an idea rather than just listening to it through my iPod and reading the chords. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhzjkd-Xjwk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hG55yVv3zBA - This is me practicing just the guitar and not the singing. This was more towards the beginning of the learning the song, and there's some parts which I didn't do right, as I learnt it just by ear and watching a video of the original artist playing it. Also, in this video I do it too fast, so this then causes me to not play it very well, as you can hear I'm not holding down the strings hard enough on some parts which is making it not sound right.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKY6pnMiJhQ - Although I don't feel as though picking is difficult to sing at the same time (I find strumming and singing difficult to do at the same time) I think it could affect my singing as it is hard to do the two at once because I'll be concentrating on my singing more

Below is a link to my Soundcloud with some recordings that I have done
In this book there are sections
so I am going to spend around 2 weeks on each chapter of this book and then evaluate
how I am getting on, using video footage etc. I haven’t got one particular target for this, I have a range, which I will look at one by one as I read through the book and watch the DVD as it is in order of the best way to learn guitar so I will use this as an outline of my targets. I'm going to look at SMART targets to look at my targets into more detail and be more specific.
I did get this book a while
before Christmas so I had been able to read through it. I have been wanting to learn guitar for ages now, as I am so interested in this I definitely think I will be improving everyday as it's something I want to get better at.
Not only do I want to work on this, I also want to practice my singing abilities, something that I struggle with when singing is sometimes projecting my voice, I feel if I push myself too hard I sound out of tune, I know my style of singing is quite quiet but I think doing exercises to strengthen my voice could be something that could help me as an all round performer.I'm going to be using this blog for my guitar practice diary but I will be putting in information about voice exercises and strategies to help me and occasional footage of me practicing. Vocal warm ups are a great way of not damaging your voice and strengthening your vocals, working on your posture and core exercises is something that helps you also, as I do dance out of college daily exercises is something that I do anyway and something I have done for a while so I think perhaps if I just extend the time I do these and looking at particular exercises for vocals this could improve me even more and perhaps even also help me with dance, also breathing exercises is something I want to look into. I have a performance coming up with a singer called Rebecca Poole, the music department in our college have been invited to sing with her, so this is something I am working towards when practicing my vocal techniques.
SMART targets are a great way of basing your own priorities around.

What makes a successful practice routine?
A practice routine will only be successful if you are completely committed to it, if the targets that are set are really something you genuinely want to work on and something that are real weaknesses that you need to improve. Also having targets that are realistic and achievable, if you aim too high I think it can make you less motivated as you already know from the beginning that it isn't going to happen.
Making sure you look at how much free time you have or seeing if you can make more free time to do the exercises on your practice routine to reach the best level that you can.
If you do not analyse how you are doing, or look at what you need to improve to actually make these targets then your practice routine will just be no use to you at all. You need to be flexible to change and able to evaluate to see if your practice routine is really helping you or not, if it isn't you should be able to look into other ways of changing it to what is best for you.
You need persistence and determination to reach the goals that you have set yourself, and something to aim for. If you have no real aim at the end of it all, or nothing to show all the hard-work that you have done then not only will it have gone to waste but it wont make you feel any better about what you have been doing. You need to be able to know what you need to do better, and not be afraid to say what you need to change and where you are going wrong.
Showing progression by being able to compare footage, rehearsal sessions, performances will help you look at what you need to do next, what you need to work on and what you have completed.
I have made a practice routine and reasearched ways of rehearsing and ways of getting more skills but I using these as a 'try out' so I can evaluate as I go along and change things, and see what isn't working for me, what I need to do differently, and what I think works really well.

Targets
- Projecting my singing voice- I chose this as a target because it's something I feel I really need to work on and something I could definitely get better at as I sing all the time, so I can improve quickly. This is an achievable target as it is something that can be done with practice. I want to be better by the end of the practice routine time. I also want to get a singing teacher to be able to evaluate my progress.
- Stronger vocals- I chose this as I feel sometimes my voice can be out of tune, this relates to my previous target of projecting my voice. My voice is quiet naturally and I don't want to change that completely but I think in some places I could definitely improve and will increase my vocal range and I also think this will help with my confidence also.
- Be able to create my own songs with guitar- I want to study song writing/singing in university when I finish college, so creating my own songs is really something I need to get better at and learning guitar will improve this. Getting better at song writing and improving guitar will compliment the both of them and help both.
- Learn different styles of how the guitar can be played- Learning different styles of music and learning different ways that a guitar can be played will improve my actual guitar playing but it will also help me when writing songs because it will enable me to have a wider range and different varieties of playing the guitar. When I write my own songs, knowing different styles of how to play the guitar and knowing the different ways that it can be used will improve my songs in general and the more I learn the wider my knowledge will be.
- Get at a good level of guitar playing-I will do this by creating a practice routine so I am practicing every single day and encourage and motivate me to do these things to get better. I think this is an achievable target because you can improve something by just practicing in a couple of weeks, so during the two months I should improve dramatically and I will continue my practices after the two months I have put in my blog.
I want to have be better at the targets I have given myself by the end of the two months.

Singing
For singing I looked at some things online to see what I could do to improve my singing.
Vocal Exercises.
- Humming
- The lip roll/trill
- Breath exercises- Practicing breathing helps you improve your singing technique. Your stamina also increases, which enables you to be able to sing for longer without as many breaks inbetween phrases. It also helps your muscle memory, your breathing will when singing will always be the same and you will not even have to think about it.
- Scale singing- This helps you when projecting your voice. This will be good for me as projecting my voice is something I want to get better at and is one of my targets. It also helps your pitch and helps you hit all the right notes.
Breath
control exercises
Here is a website for an exercise for a breathing exercise. which I am going to work on.
I am going to also
use YouTube tutorials so I can follow techniques and watch them as
often as I can. I can also use YouTube tutorials for the guitar, if I want to look at something more specific then YouTube would be very useful for this. Here is another link which I am going to use and see if it is helpful to me.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sing/learning/warmingup.shtml
Posture exercises
To do this firstly I'll need to work on my core strength, and do exercises which will help this. Things like Sit-ups, Plank Hold, Sit-ups (with twists). Torso stretches, standing squad stretches. Improve flexibility in hips and thighs, which you can do this by strengthening your hamstrings and abs. Exercises to do this are core exercises, leg curls with ball, standing quad stretch, kneeling quad and hip stretch. Strengthening neck muscles, I can do this by, Neck retraction exercises and head rest exercises and general neck stretches.
GUITAR
Not only can you warm up for singing, but warming up for guitar rehearsals is also very important.Your fingers and hands need to be loosened up especially before playing more difficult guitar parts, if you don't stretch out hand muscles you can get serious injury and possibly if it's that severe it could bring an end to your guitar playing. Warming up and stretching your hands get your blood flowing to your fingers which also prevents cold hands. Due to my research I have found that just 5 minutes of warming up your hands is all you need to do.
Here is a website which I am going to use as it gives you a good guide of how to warm up your hands/arms.
http://guitarheroschool.com/warm-up-your-hands-before-you-play-guitar/
I've been searching on line for what kinds of things you need to improve your guitar playing and researched how often I should practice, for how long at a time, and what specifically I should practice.
I found a website which tells me in stages exactly what I am after. http://www.justinguitar.com/en/PC-501-BeginnersPractice.php
I researched an actual practice routine and below is the one that I found very helpful. I'm practicing music theory a lot anyway, using websites like Musition and any websites I find online. I have took on board this practice routine because I think the timings he has wrote down are perfect and it will help me cover everything over not a very big time which is a good thing as then I wont get bored and frustrated as quickly.
My
Practice Timetable
Above is my practice routine for both my singing and guitar practice, this isn't my final time table it's a basic template of what the things that I need to do daily and I can change along the way. I haven't specifically said what I'm going to be practicing each time I'm doing guitar practice this is because I won't be completely sure of where I'm at each time and I want to set targets when I complete something perfectly depending on how fast I pick things up. Where it says guitar practice for one hour, I'm not going to do this all in one go as I don't want to over do it, the best way to practice is to do it in about 15 minutes per session, have a break then come back to it.
Here are 2 performances from a gig that I did at a bar in Henley called Magoo's. I'm going to be performing again there and I want to compare myself between the two and see how much I have improved.
I have put these up because when I do my performance at the concert with Rebecca Poole I want to show if/how I have improved whilst doing these exercises over the past few weeks.

Sit ups to strengthen core:
·
Have your knees
bent and your feet flat on the ground
·
Have hands on
opposite shoulders-this allows a central rising point
·
Tighten your
stomach muscles gently by drawing in your belly button to your spine
·
Slowly gently
lift your head first followed by shoulder blades, keeping your abdominal
muscles contracted
·
Hold the
position for a second and slowly bring your torso back to the floor
·
Repeat this and
keep it as part of your daily routine and your core strength will improve

- Warm-up - 5 minutes. First of all - tune your guitar! Then, play anything you like, but don't do anything that is really hard on the muscles in your hands. Let them get warmed up first.
- Scales - 10 minutes . Work on scales you don't yet know well. You probably have scales tabbed out and printed. Take your time and play these slowly with the metronome. Play the notes of the scale in question in any order, random, sequential, etc. As you do this, try to visualize in your head the patterns this scale creates on the fretboard. Over time, you will be able to "see" the scale on the fretboard without thinking much about it.
- Arpeggios - 10 minutes. Do the same as with the scales mentioned above. An arpeggio is a group of notes which are played one after the other, either going up or going down, where the notes belong to one chord. Again, visualize and try to remember the patterns you play.
- Chords - 10 minutes. Learn new voicings of chords. Learn new chords. Practice chord progressions with some of the new chords you are learning.
- Theory - 5 minutes. Get a good book about music theory.
- Technique - 10 minutes. Work on things that need improvement or that may be new to you, for example - hammer-ons, pull-offs, bends, strumming, alternate picking, sweep technique, tapping, etc.
- Fretboard training - 10 minutes. Set the metronome at a low BPM. Start with any note you want. Find and play that note for every click of the metronome on every string, but start with 2 strings at a time. Once you have that down, move to 2 more strings, then practice finding that note on those 4 strings. Continue with the last 2 strings and finally do all 6 strings. Play the notes in any order and direction. The purpose here is to find the note in question as quickly as you can. It will become "transparent" with enough training - you will be able to find any note anywhere on the fretboard without having to think
- Work on a song - 10 minutes. Work on a song which has something challenging in it, something that gives you an opportunity to practice something new.
- Reading music - 10 minutes. Work on reading TAB and music notation. Practice reading rhythms, notes and sight reading.
- Transcribe something - ANY minutes. This is the best way to teach yourself, and it's fantastic ear training. Listen to a few seconds of a song, over and over. Imitate best you can, try to figure out one note at a time. This means replaying the same sequence many times. After a while, you will be able to do this quicker, as well as picking out more than one note at a time.
- Play anything - ANY minutes. Noodle around and play whatever you want - playing should first and foremost be FUN!
Hand warm ups on guitar
Video of hand warm ups from YouTube:
Me doing the hand warm ups:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb4Y1OizE60 - This video is
footage of me practicing a hand exercise, I understand that I don't get the
notes out of it very much and I am very slow, but this exercise is something I
am going to continue doing in order for me to gain strength in my hand. I also
found that it's a good idea to start at different parts of the fret board due
to the distance between the frets getting further apart closer to the
end of the neck which will be more challenging.

I have put these up because when I do my performance at the concert with Rebecca Poole I want to show if/how I have improved whilst doing these exercises over the past few weeks.

Here are three performances from an assessment we had in
college. I don’t think you can see much of a difference compared to my last
performance because obviously it isn't a solo so you can’t really single out my
voice much. I have a lot to work on.

Today is Christmas day and I started using my guitar straight away just to have a
look at it and see how the DVD and book I have works and to see if it is useful. The first
thing that I have looked at so far is my first chord, which is just an E minor,
I found this chord very easy as it didn't take much thinking about and your
fingers aren't stretching so much, I’m glad I found this easy as it meant I
could move along straight away. I am pretty familiar to the names of chords due
to the music theory that we do in college so this helps me a lot.

26/12/12
Today I went over the E minor
just to refresh my memory although I am completely fine with this one, I moved
onto the next part of the DVD which is two more chords, which are G major and C
major. These two chords were slightly more confusing and a bit more of a
challenge to my fingers, this is because it requires stretching them more but
this is something that I will get used to over time. I found it hurt my fingers
a little so I’m going to look at methods of warming up your fingers on line and
see how this helps me which could perhaps relax my hands a bit more. Tomorrow I
want to continue going over what I have learnt today and then perhaps move on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfiKhCd1PHM
27/12/12
So far I haven’t found anything
too hard, nothing that I feel I need a lot of extra time on, but today I just
went over what I done yesterday because I find that sometimes when I strum I
can hear other vibrations which I think is from where my other fingers are
touching strings they’re not supposed to this is just from not being completely
perfect to where my fingers go but the more I get used to this the less that
this will happen. I feel I know these now so I have moved onto the next thing
on the DVD which is D major, at first I found it really confusing the DVD was
making me confused because I couldn't actually see what he was doing properly so
I had to keep referring to the book and rewinding the DVD and pausing it so I
could clearly see but I got there in the end. I’m now going to spend a couple
of hours becoming completely familiar to these chords so they become something
that I don’t need to think about. I have also been writing my own notes in the book so I can remember them in my own way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHTf3W5fOOk
28/12/12
Today I went over again from what
I done yesterday and now I feel like I know them all well, I know where my
fingers go it’s still just something that I need to think about and it doesn't always happen automatically so before I move on a lot I want to get a little
better at this. The next part shows you how to play ‘amazing grace’ it shows
you the simple version by just strumming each chord once but the next section
it shows a more advanced way, but for now I’m looking at the simpler way as I
don’t want to jump ahead of myself. They give you this song as it is just all
the chords that I have learnt so far, the thing I am struggling with though is
moving from each chord smoothly but I’m hoping after a bit more practice this
will become better.

I'm finding it easier to change between these 4 chords that I have learnt so far, I have been practicing changing between them in different orders to get used to it. I think it's a lot cleaner now and I'm improving a lot.
4/01/13
At the moment for my singing side of things I am needing to rehearse for a performance I have coming up, which is for the singer Rebecca Poole, this performance will be on the 17th January, in the Kenton theatre, I really need to make sure my voice is warmed up as much as it can be before this date comes up to prevent any strain on my voice and so it stays in good condition for this performance. I need to rehearse as much as I possibly can for this so need to find some spare time which suits me and also which suits Charlie as we are doing the performance together.
7/01/13
Today I have continued trying to get better at changing between the chords at a faster pace, at the moment I don't feel the source I am using at the moment (my guitar book) is helping me that much, I feel it isn't teaching me the things I need and want to know, I'm considering getting perhaps a lesson a week to help me with this and I think it will make me more on target and will make it easier for me to set targets as I will be hearing some one else's point of view on how I am doing so far. For now I am going to continue and even use YouTube tutorials, and I am going to find another book which will help me. Although it did help me with the beginning, teaching me the few basic chords, but I just feel it isn't helping me move forward and I'm finding it hard to get the motivation.
8/01/13
I focused on keeping going over what I have learned so far, at the moment I do feel like I am progressing but I have a lot that I need to rehearse and keep going over to get to the best I possibly can. I've looked at TAB as this is something I think will be very useful. I'm finding it quite hard to get my head around it but I keep going over it and re reading it to try and understand it more each time.
9/01/13
Today I went and bought a new guitar book because I want to see if it is any better than the one I already have, it comes with a DVD too, I'm going to try this out tomorrow and see how I feel it works with me. It's called 'A dummies guide to learning Guitar'. I have read through it a bit and I think it seems like something I'd much rather read as it has more information and seems something I could actually enjoy reading. I also went into the library to get some music theory books out which can help me with a few of the units I am doing at the moment, and I thought it might help me with guitar as it'll help me to read music, I have been reading this quite a lot.
10/01/13
I'm rehearsing today with Charlie for the performance at the Rebecca Poole concert next Thursday. The song I am doing is Lucy Rose- Shiver. I am also doing another performance with a group which is a performance we did for our assessment. I'll put all the footage up of the performances once I have done them to show the difference between the last gig that I done.
12/01/13
Today I moved on from the stuff I have learned so far on the guitar, now I am learning chords like, A7 B7 etc, I'm not finding it too hard but I'm really focusing on practicing changing between each chords. I practiced for about 2 hours today spread out I found this made me keep my concentration levels high and I really made some progress. (UPLOAD VIDEO)
14/01/13
I practiced for the performance with Rebecca Poole today I felt it went really well and to be honest we didn't need to work on much because we all got through it quickly. I was doing Lucy Rose-Shiver with just acoustic guitar but now I have added electric guitar, but it's really soft and it adds such a lovely touch to the song I'm really excited to perform this piece we are showing it to Rebecca Poole on Wednesday. When I went home from college I practiced over the new and old stuff that I have been learning on guitar.
15/01/13
Today we got together again and rehearsed, we are also doing a group performance so we went over that several times for showing Rebecca on Wednesday. We practiced with microphones and I think this rehearsal went really well also. I continued rehearsing guitar when I got home, I feel I don't want to move on too fast until I have completely gotten everything perfect so I feel I know what I've learned so far good enough to carry on.
16/01/13
We performed our pieces today to Rebecca Poole which I think went really well, we have the show tomorrow which I am looking forward to. We rehearsed a bit before just so we were happy with everything and that we definitely knew what we was doing.
17/01/13
Today was the day that we performed at the Kenton Theatre, I performed as a group with Daisy Archie and Charlie, it went really well and I think this experience has really helped me to know what to improve my stage presence and I think will help me for next time. I didn't have time to practice guitar when I got home today as I got back really late. Here is the video of the performance that I did at the Kenton Theatre. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIuhdyGJuig
18/01/13
I rehearsed more on my guitar today, I have another book which I said about before, and this book really goes into more detail on things like how to read tabs and a little bit of music, it can slightly help with the theory side of things. I recapped what I've learnt so far because I hadn't done it for a couple of days so I needed to go over this.
19/01/13
I moved onto learning so more chords, things like F, Dm and a few others. I've noticed obviously these are a little more tricky so I need to practice these a lot, but not forget about the other stuff I have learnt so far. I'm going to practice all this over the next couple of days before I move on. In the book I've got the section I'm currently at it tells me about strokes and what the symbol for this is. I did a few exercises in the book also.(UPLOAD VIDEO)
21/01/13
Over the last couple of days I have been going over what I've learnt so far. I'm feeling at the moment like I don't know where to go from here, I really need some one to one tutoring for some personal help because I'm struggling on what I do from here and don't feel like I'm improving. I'm sure this is probably just part of the process but I just feel I need some reassuring and help in how I am doing, and what I need to improve on. I've been looking about for guitar teachers. Today I also looked at a couple of YouTube tutorials in which I'll put the links up for.
Changing my practice routine...
I've noticed that I haven't really been sticking to the practice diary. I've been doing everything that I said I would do on there just not on the days that I said I would have off which I think is a good thing, so I'm going to make another practice routine, I want to focus more on my guitar and singing is something I do everyday and doing a lot at college so I really want to focus more on guitar, and getting a singing teacher is something I am really looking into.

22/01/13
The G chord picking pattern is: string 6, string 4, string 3, string 4
The picking pattern for the C and Em chords is: string 5, string 4, string 3, string 4.
Capo 3 Intro: G C G C Em C Em C Verse 1: G C Peter, Can I go back home?, G C I flew here under false pretense I thought it would be fun, Em C But the lost boys have moved away and one of them's locked up, Em I know you think you’re still a child but, C G I couldn't give a f***, You’re twenty one, C G C Verse 2: G C Oh Peter, I can dream no more, G C I’ve been chasing all of yours I’ve forgotten what it was, Em C Em C That I wanted, That I want, Chorus: G C No I won’t be your doll, G C Em So please don’t ask me to, You see I don’t look so good, C G In yellow, like other dolls they do, C G C Verse3: G C G Oh Peter, I am not naïve, I see the way you look at her, C Em And you don’t do that for me, oh it must be love, C G And we both know its not with us, C G C Chorus C G C G C G Oh Peter, he walks beside the lake, While I lay beside, C Em C An empty space, waiting for the sirens, just waiting for, Em C the sirens, Chorus 2: G C G C Oh I won’t be your doll, so please don’t you ask me to, Em C G I won’t shut my little painted face, like all your other dolls C G C G they do, like all your other dolls they do.
07/03/13
I continued learning the song I started yesterday. I found
it much easier today as I have been practicing it a lot. The only thing I am
struggling with is the timing a bit as it varies a lot through out and also due
to it being a very quiet song it can be quite hard to try and hear it back from
a recording.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hG55yVv3zBA - This is me practicing just the guitar and not the singing.
